Akamai Technologies Inc. plunged 7.2% to $90.97 after the cybersecurity and cloud services provider reported a lower profit in the fourth quarter ending in December.
Revenue increased to $1.02 billion from $995.02 million, net income declined to $139.90 million from $161.16 million, and earnings per diluted share fell to 91 cents from $1.03 a year ago.
The company spent $138 million in the quarter to repurchase 1.4 million shares of its common stock at an average price of $97.43 per share.
Akamai had 150 million shares of common stock outstanding as of the end of 2024.
For the first quarter of 2025, the company estimated revenue between $1 billion and $1.02 billion, compared to $987.0 million in the same period in 2024.

Revenue in the first quarter increased 8% to $987 million from $915.7 million, net income rose to $175.4 million from $97.1 million, and diluted earnings per share advanced to $1.11 from 62 cents a year ago.
The company estimated a second-quarter revenue range between $967 million and $986 million and full-year revenue between $3.95 billion and $4.02 billion.

Second quarter revenue increased 4% to $936 million from $903 million and net income rose 7% to $129 million from $137.8 million and diluted earnings per share fell to 84 cents from 85 cents a year ago.
The company repurchased 1.6 million shares for an average price of $83.97 per share and a total of $137 million.
The company also revised higher its full-year 2023 estimates and guided its third quarter revenue between $937 million and $952 million and full-year revenue between $3.765 billion and $3.795 billion.

The company estimated revenue in the second quarter between $927 million and $937 million and for the full-year 2023 between $3.740 billion and $3.785 billion.
Akamai forecasted capital expenditure as a percentage of revenue to range between 21% and 22% in the second quarter and between 18.5% and 19.0% in the full-year 2023.
