AutoZone Inc. increased 1.9% after the specialty retailer reported fiscal fourth quarter results.
Revenue increased 5.6% to $6.6 billion from $6.2 billion, net income advanced to $931.6 million from $836.9 million, and diluted earnings per share rose to $56.05 from $48.71 a year ago.
Same-store sales across the company jumped 2.7%, driven by a 1.6% rise at domestic stores and a 10.7% increase at international locations.
Persistent cost inflation, rising diesel and fuel prices, and muted consumer discretionary trends contributed to the stock trading near its 52-week lows prior to the release of quarterly results.
AutoZone management continued to push inventory closer to customers and navigated uncertainties related to U.S. tariffs.
The company’s inventory increased 10.1% over the same period last year, driven primarily by growth initiatives.
Net inventory, defined as merchandise inventories less accounts payable, on a per-store basis, was negative $107,000, compared to negative $131,000 last year and negative $107,000 last quarter.
AutoZone repurchased 223,000 shares of its common stock at an average price per share of $3,125, for a total investment of $697.5 million in its latest quarter.
For the fiscal year, the company repurchased 579,000 shares of its common stock, at an average price of $3,496, for a total investment of $2.0 billion.
At year end, the company had $1.6 billion remaining under its current share repurchase authorization.

Net sales climbed 5.4% to $4.46 billion from $4.23 billion, net income dropped 6.6% to $608 million from $652 million, and diluted earnings per share fell 3.6% to $35.36 from $36.69 a year ago.
The company repurchased $250 million of its own stock during the quarter and opened 84 new stores, compared to 45 stores a year earlier.

AutoZone Inc. traded flat at $3,477 after the retailer of auto and truck parts, chemicals, and accessories reported a sales increase during the fiscal second quarter ending in February.
Net sales increased to $3.95 billion from $3.86 billion, net income dropped to $487.92 million from $515.03 million, and earnings per diluted share fell to $28.29 from $28.89 a year ago.
Total same-store sales, or sales for the company’s domestic and international stores open at least one year, rose 2.9% at constant currency.
Domestic same-store sales jumped 1.9%, while international sales dropped 8.2%, including the impacts from fluctuations of foreign exchange rates.

AutoZone rose 2% to $2,825.0 after the automotive parts retailer reported better-than-expected revenue and earnings in its fiscal second quarter.
Revenue in the fiscal second quarter rose 4.6% to $3.85 billion from $3.69 billion, net income increased to $515.03 million from $476.5 million, and diluted earnings per share advanced to $28.89 from $24.64 a year ago.
Same-store sales increased 3.0%, driven by a 0.3% increase in domestic sales and a 23.9% rise in sales at international locations.
AutoZone repurchased 84,000 shares of its common stock at an average price per share of $2,676, for a total of $223.8 million.
At the end of the fiscal second quarter ending on February 10, the company had $2.1 billion remaining under its current share repurchase authorization.
During the quarter, AutoZone opened 19 new stores and closed three in the U.S., opened six new stores in Mexico, and opened four in Brazil, for a total of 26 net new stores.
As of February 10, the retailer had 6,332 stores in the U.S., 751 in Mexico, and 108 in Brazil, for a total store count of 7,191.
