Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company increased 3.1% to $244.96 after the chip manufacturer reported sharply higher sales and earnings in the second quarter.
The company's sales surged more than 38%, and net income advanced 61%, driven in large part because of solid demand for its advanced chips used in artificial intelligence applications.
Revenue climbed to NT$933.8 billion from NT$673.5 billion, net earnings soared to NT$398.3 billion from NT$247.8 billion, and diluted earnings per share increased to NT$15.36 from NT$9.56 a year ago.
TSMC guided third-quarter revenues to be between $31.8 billion and $33.0 billion, an increase of 38% from a year ago and a rise of 8% from the second quarter.
The company estimated a gross profit margin between 55.5% and 57.5% and an operating profit margin between 45.5% and 47.5%.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company increased 12% to $210.36 after the company reported sharply higher sales and earnings in the third quarter.
Revenue increased 36% to $23.5 billion, and gross margin expanded to 57.8% from 54.3% a year ago.
Net income in the quarter jumped to NT 325.08 billion, or $10.05 billion, from NT 210.8 billion a year ago.
Gross margin for the quarter was 57.8%, operating margin was 47.5%, and net profit margin was 42.8%.
In the third quarter, shipments of 3-nanometer accounted for 20% of total wafer revenue; 5-nanometer accounted for 32%; 7-nanometer accounted for 17%.
Advanced technologies, defined as 7-nanometer and smaller chip technologies, accounted for 69% of total wafer revenue.
The company guided fourth-quarter revenue to fall between $26.1 billion and $26.9 billion.

Taiwan Semiconductor soared 6.6% to $109.83 after the company reported quarterly results that exceeded market expectations.
Revenue in the fourth quarter was flat at NT$ 625.5 million, but net income declined 19.3% to NT$ 237.8 million from NT$ 295.9 million, and diluted earnings per share dropped to NT$ 9.21 from NT$ 11.41 a year ago.
In U.S. dollars, fourth quarter revenue was $19.62 billion, which decreased 1.5% year-over-year but increased 13.6% from the previous quarter.
The company guided first quarter 2024 revenue between $18.0 billion and $18.8 billion, based on the exchange rate of 31.1 NT for one U.S. dollar.
Gross margin in the quarter is expected to range between 52% and 54%, and operating margin between 40% and 42%.
Capital expenditure in 2024 is estimated to range between $28 billion and $32 billion.
